This is because thither is as well as a flop look to her. Its standardised to a bring out personality. The of import ship preemptal in which Curleys married woman is portray to be fatigued is that Steinbeck intention eachy gives her no name, whence she has no status. a homogeneous, Curleys married woman is visualized as a decently person. This is shown when men ar panicked atomic number 18 panic-stricken of her. This is call subject to all of the workers on the ranch beholding her as jailbait. to a fa ult Curleys married woman same(p)s to trim herself upon citizenry, for role model Lennie and Crooks. However, because of this she bath in same(p) manner be seen as a mischief-maker or sexy, which makes the men on the ranch, lift her. The first-year status that Curleys married woman shows, which to relates to what happens, is where she shows her sneakiness. The originator that I value that Curleys married woman did this was that she motto Lennie as an thriving tar bother, collect to his fry- desire moral state. Also, the catch for Curleys married woman absentminded so urgently wanting to smatter to someone, was that she was lone(prenominal)(a) and neer had the fortune to deliver a palaver with bothone. on that pointof she knew that she would be able to reprimand to Lennie payable(p) to him not fully understanding e precisething. It is the let out of the advert where Curleys married woman says bloke male child. This shows the power and dominance that Curleys married woman sustain everyplace Lennie. Curleys wife selects Lennie to tinct her vibrissa, and he very oft enjoys this, due to his affection of printing courteous things. As a result of this, Lennie starts to accident her pig sonorouser and harder. This is at the similar age as Curleys wife promote him to obtain it more. Lennie becomes excite and as he cant storage area the billet, like an large(p) would he holds on tight, for high-priced life. Then due to Curleys wifes phrenetic shouting and sinuate to get him off, Lennie becomes micturate up and confused. That is when Lennie becomes savage and get the better ofs her by faulting her neck. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck.(Pg 90, lines 14-18)Now, I ideate that this could be part Curleys wifes fault, as she knew that Curley doesnt like large-minded/tall men, and thereof she knew that he would do anything to get one up on one, so I intend that she would kick in cognise Curley would check bypast for him, for dead. However, I besides speak up that Curleys wife didnt acquit for anything to happen, as it did. Also, at the end, when George shoots Lennie, I dont retrieve that she would require ideal that George would spend a penny shot him, for any finical reason. As a conclusion, I would seat up a roundabout of the cursed of Lennies destruction upon Curleys wife. This is in general because Curleys wife was stern that she would control a colloquy with Lennie, even though it wasnt what he wanted, as he told her to fall in him simply several(prenominal) times, yet she did no much(prenominal) thing. Taum Sauk Upper Reservoir Dam Restoration Project Essay

Taum Sauk Upper Reservoir Dam Restoration Project - Essay Exampleged upon. referable to this, the project which will be proposed blurs the lines between economic development, and environmental recovery. Background Although it has been over 25 years since the explosion that led to the release of radioactive matter at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in the Soviet Union (currently Ukraine), the fact of the matter is that the firmament in and around the release is still highly toxic. After the disaster which spilled toxic radioactive waste into the atmosphere and ruptured the poorly built Soviet containment system, the engineers of the time decided that the best way to remediate the situation would merely to be close the reactor that had experienced the dis aster and move refocus electrical generation needs on the remaining reactors of the Chernobyl power plant (Voitsekhovich 1016). Although such(prenominal) an approach has definitely worked for a period of nearly 30 years, the fact of the matter is that the untouched and un-remediated reactor that initially ruptured lies untouched and continues to leak radioactive matter into the ground, the air, and the water table. Influences to the Project Due to the fact that Ukraine, once a part of the former Soviet Union, has a robust engineering and construction sector with a skilled and talented work force to draw upon, the extent to which well qualified individuals available to work on such a situation exists is not in question. Moreover, due to the fact that few environmental or labor laws define the current system that is evidenced with regards to construction and engineering projects within Ukraine, it can readily be seen that few roadblocks to such a remediation project will be likely to be realized either. An additional point that bears mention is the fact that the northern reaches of the nation of Ukraine, specifically where Chernobyl is situated, can experience moderate to severe winters where ice and snow can become a major impediment to construction or the delivery of mainstay supplies and personnel to the building site as a function of poorly maintained and insufficient roads and transportation systems. With regards to the cultural and language differential that mustiness be engaged upon, this is an aspect of project planning that cannot be understated (Toru Oka 999). Due to the fact that the Ukrainian language is unique and only tangentially related to its closest linguistic cousin Russian it is the understanding of this student that a great deal of time, effort, planning, and money will need to go into hiring translators and area experts to integrate with all levels of the workforce, existing infrastructure, and governmental liaisons to the project. INTRODUCTION TO QUANTITATIVE MANAGEMENT - Lab Report Exampleotal profit that brook be obtained spot signifi cigarett the constraints (in this case maximum benefit of 710) gave 26 for moulding, 14 for trimming and 13 for packaging. However, these values gave a profit of 705 which is little by 5. What this means is that an increase in either of the tree variables will give a gain value that is way above the limit that the company has in stored for the items (710). Therefore, the optimal values that the manufacturing can order and make optimal profit while satisfying the constraints is 26, 14, and 13 for moulding, trimming, and packaging respectively. Besides, the maximum amount of time that each component of moulding can take is represented in the above table. From the solver output, it is apparent that the production time remained. The maximum production time utilised in the manufacture was less from the total allocated time by 2500, 1700, and 300 for moulding, trimming, and packag ing respectively. The remaining time could not be accounted for because any change in any of the three variables resulted in high gearer increase in the total amount of time allocated for each component. Therefore, the entire time was not utilised to obtain maximum production while satisfying the constraints of the equation. The result given by the solver is the optimal selection for each component that gives a maximum profit. One would argue that since the amount of resources useable was not fully utilised its sensitivity was not 100%. However, it is apparent that the sensitivity for this selection was (705 / 710) * 100= 99.2%. Though this sensitivity is not perfect, it is relatively high and appropriate. Therefore, the choice of each component given by the solver is sensitive as per the requirement to satisfy the constraints. Selection of parameters that satisfy constraints at 99% is a better option than a percentage lower because such selection should not exceed the available res ource. For this reason, these values were the optimal and maximal choice

Moreover, Pip changes his view on his future when Joe explains that Divisions among such must come, and must be met as they come You and me is not two figures to be together in London nor anywhere else but where is private, and beknown, and understood among friends.(27.246)Likewise, when Joe is in London with Mr. Wopsle he wants to put blessing on Pip and explain to him that they are different people in separate worlds and he wants to show Pip how it hurts when people leave their loved ones. Joe thinks he has sacrificed enough and wants Pip to come back, but now Joe realizes that they are s eparate people with different expectations. Additionally, Pip and Joe are still great friends however their breakage relationship hurts Pip and makes him want to restart his life and be with Joe, but he still stays a gentleman. All in all, Joe leaving Pip just as Pip did to him, once again creates Pip to think differently and regret some of his decisions in the past.Throughout Pips last-place stage of expectations, Joes compassionate attitude is expected to make Pip change his values and stop Joe from suffering, but makes Joe ponder if he gave Pip enough sympathy to make him come back to him. Firstly, after Pips benefactor, Magwitch, dies Pip starts to become ill and also gets arrested because of his debt. While sitting back at his house Pip starts to realize that he always has someone there for him, Joe, and expresses his regret by saying O Joe, you break my heart Look angry at me, Joe. Strike me, Joe. Tell me of my ingratitude. Dont be so good to me(57.388). This statement said by Pip when Joe is by his side, expresses the point that even though Pip did wrong, Joe will always be there to comfort him and make him feel better, and that Pip thinks he should not be treated good by Joe at this point. Furthermore, Pip now understands, There was no change whatever in Joe.Exactly what he had been in my eyes then, he was in my eyes still just as simply faithful, and as simply right(57.389), which proves that the compassion from other individuals do change peoples values and outlooks on all things in life and expectations. Likewise, Pip appreciates that Joe was faithful to him even though endures suffering because of his high expectations and dire choice to be a gentleman. Moreover, since Pip soon began to understand that the cause of it was in him, and that the fault of it was all his.(58.395), he started to feel for his dear friend Joe, again as he once did and wanted to have never of met his benefactor that caterpillar tread him to leave Joe. This connects to th e main point because it finalizes how love is stronger then the pain someone causes some other person and how it can shape an individual in different ways.Additionally, when the dim Pip says, Dont tell him, Joe, that I was thankless dont tell him, Biddy, that I was ungenerous and unjust only tell him that I honored you both, because you were both so good and true, and that I said it would be natural to him to grow up a much better man than I did.(59.404), it shows Joe and Biddy how much Pip is truly sorry for the choice he made and, reluctantly, they responded with, God knows as I forgive you, if I have anythink to forgive(59.404). All in all, Joes compassionate and sympathetic heart pays of and lets him forfeit no more, which proves the point that suffering is a sacrifice one is willing to endure for the love of another individual even if the other person doesnt see the good you are doing until the end.In conclusion, all of the suffering and sacrifice Joe endures, because of much love and compassion he has for others in Great Expectations did prove to make his dear old chap Pip reconsider his views, personality and values towards life and his own expectations. The significance in this novel is that sacrificing yourself out of sympathy is a step anyone should be willing to take to have an even stronger bond within the relationship. The idea of sacrifice and suffering for another individual is in the real word, like how a mama bear feeds her cubs before herself, because she cares for them, and just like how Joe suffers and hates being away from his cub Pip. All in all, without sacrifice and suffering people wont have as much compassion for each other and would not endure the pain if they didnt truly care for them.

A View From The Bridge Essay Example for Free

A View From The Bridge EssayA View from the Bridge was written by Arthur Miller in 1955. The play is a modern tragedy with some elements of an Aristotelian tragedy. The play is set in the 1950s in the gullet of refreshing York which is Red Hook.In this essay I am going to explore if the protagonist, Eddie Carbone, is guilty for his downfall which wherefore leads to his death. A tragic hero has a ignominious flaw which leads to his downfall, in Eddies case, he is attracted to his niece. This causes him to be overprotective and not let her meet anyone else, as he wants her for himself. The tragic heros downfall is brought about by ignoring advice In Eddies case, he doesnt listen to Alfieri, the lawyer and chorus of the play, when he tells him to let Catherine go.My first off impression of Eddie is a tall, big and quite overweight man, with little hair and a slowly dying face. He is an outgoing and hardworking man who provides for his family. I got some of these impressions bec ause the chorus, Alfieri, describes him as, He is forty a husky slightly overweight massiveshoreman. The first person he talks to in the play is his niece, Catherine. At first he is caring when he comments on her new dress. But then he becomes a bit protective about her wearing it as he thinks it is too short and that men outside would stare. He is also reluctant to let her to go to work at first but when he sees she is sad he lets her do it, which shows us that he is more willing to make his niece prosperous than his wife. He talks to his wife, Beatrice like he would to any other wife but he does not go over to her to give her a liquidity crisis or a kiss, just simply tells her something. But when he does, he sometimes holds her hands affectionately. This tells us that he expresses his feelings more easily in gestures than in words. Before Marco and Rodolpho arrive, Eddie is not too fond of them staying at his house, he complains that he may end up sleeping on the floor because of them. But then he talks about it being an honour for letting them stay over. When the cousins actually arrive, his attitude towards them changes dramatically. Earlier on he was saying Listen, as long as they jazz where there gonna sleep, and when they arrive he greets themYoure welcome, Marco, we got plenty of room here. Katie, give them supper, heh? Later on he only comes to address Marco only as he realises that Catherine is attracted to Rodolpho. He is coming more and more to address Marco only. He notices this as she keeps talking about Rodolphos facial appearance. The fall of Eddie Carbone begins when the cousins moved in. Rodolpho and Catherine are promptly attracted to each other, which angers Eddie very much as he is also attracted to her. Beatrice worries that Eddie dislikes Rodolpho because he likes Catherine, he responds, He sings on the ships, didja know that? This gives us a hint that he is trying to find things wrong with Rodolfo. by and by this he visits Alfieri, t he lawyer. He goes to ask him if he would be able to stop Rodolfo and Catherine marrying each other, but Alfieris advice to him is the child has to rise up up and go away, and the man has to learn to forget. Because after all, Eddie what other way can it end?One other thing that Alfieri says hints at the truth, She wants to get married, Eddie. She buzzword marry you, can she? Eddie replies Whatre you talking about, marry me I dont know what the hell youre talking about He obviously knows what hes talking about, and Beatrice knows as well. The violent reply from Eddie shows us that he fells ashamed that he loves his niece and fears that he will lose his dignity and respect.Eddie doesnt listen to his advice but leaves the office in a dilemma.Knowing he cant do anything about Rodolfo, his attitude towards him changes dramatically. He stops talking to him in a civil manner and only speaks to mock him, such as when Rodolfo says, Lemons are green, and Eddie replies, I know lemons are green, for Christs sake. He says this almost to point out that Rodolfo is stupid. Every time he criticises Rodolfo he seems to look for support in his older brother, Marco. When he tries to teach Rodolfo how to fight, we see Marco being protective of his brother. When Eddie tries to land a punch on Rodolfo, the stage directions say it mildly staggers Rodolfo, Marco rises. After they consecrate finished, Marco has his own test of masculinity. Marco says Can you lift this chair, a seemingly easy task. But Eddie cannot complete it and Marco carries on with showing him as the stage directions say, Rodolfo and Catherine have stopped dancing as Marco raises the chair over his head. Marco is face to face with Eddie, a strained tension gripping his eyes and jaw, his neck stiff, the chair embossed like a weapon over his head and he transforms what might appear like a glare of warning into a smile of triumph. This shows us that Marco is no longer in support of Eddie and it is also a sign th at he will defend and protect his brother if he is harmed. This leaves the audience tense at the end of Act One, which will make us focus more on the play. We become anxious about what happens from here on. We also know that a tragedy or something that will lead up to it, is going to occur in the beginning.

Eighteenth Century Literature Essay Example for Free

Eighteenth Century publications EssayAt the start of the Eighteenth Century Literature the literary pieces focus on intelligent and scientific views on all aspects of life be it economic, cordial, political and religious. The flowing heralded the Age of Enlightenment which was the thought often prevalent of the day. The writers sought to set universal principles on humanity, temper, and society. The eighteenth-century literate reflected this quest. Written pieces around this time attacked various spiritual and scientific authority, dogmatism, intolerance, censorship, and economic and social restraints. Thus we can see in Thomas Grays Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard expressedly deals with the social issues prevalent during their time particularly the wide gap between social class and the opportunity to attain greatness. These lines in the meter captured these views Let not Ambition mock their useful toil, Their homely joys, and destiny obscure Nor Grandeur catch out with a disdainful smile The short and simple annals of the Poor. Look morethe importance of being earnest satireGrays tone throughout the poem is filled with regret. One can sense that something important is lost. This emotional tone captures the injustices that exist in the society due to wealth. He was actually voicing his opinions understandably against social class prejudices that was unvarnished during that period. In Jonathan Swifts A Modest Proposal also tackled the social ills during his time. This satirical essay used allusions to English oppressive attitudes toward the Irish. This is apparent in these lines I grant this food may be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for Landlords, who as they cause already devoured most of the Parents, seem to have the best Title to the Children. He also pointed out criticisms on England on the way it mistreated Ireland For this kind of commodity go away not bear exportation, and flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long continuance in salt, although perhaps I could call a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it. At first glance, the poem appeared to be criticisms heaped on England. But upon closer command one can also sense that Swift was expressing his sentiments on the conditions in Ireland, more specifically the can-do spirit of the times that pervaded the community which misled people into thinking that they can cure all social and economic ills specifically fix population and labor issues. Swifts Modest Proposal talked about a burlesque of projects concerning the poor, that were considered fashionable in the early 18th century.Eighteenth Century Literature is characterized by extreme rationalism and skepticism which gave rise to deism or the belief in the existence of God which became the main rootage in the succeeding era of Romanticism. This era is considered as the Age of Sensibility which of course clased with the ideals of the nub Ages. Towards the end of the period, an intensifying focus on instinct and feeling instead of judgment and restraint was noted paving the way for the Romantic Literature. Romantic Literature During the period of Romanticism, industrialization was introduced.Steam engine was developed and this caused expansion of cities and a number of migrants leaving the countryside. Poor people flocked to the city. Issues such as class-conflicts and concerns on environmental pollution were prevalent. This developments in the era prompted the poets and the writers to seek solace in the beauty of nature. Thus, in most of their literary works we can see the universal theme of Mother character being the true cause of wisdome and the antidote to industrialization. Philosophers particularly Jean Jacques Rousseau tackled pertinent issues such as the supremacy or dominance of nature over civilization.A group of poets called Lake Poets from England espoused this philosophical view. Lake Poets comprised of a group of friends such as William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The work of these two poets reflect their sentiments perfectly. These Romantic Poets utilized emotions and reflections in their poets to expire their message across. Wordsworths I Wandered solitary(a) as a Cloudand Coleridges The Eolian Harp reflected their thoughts about nature and how much they value it. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by Wordsworth is about the beauty of nature and the need for introspection. This is best captured in the last lines of the poem For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. Nature after all is best understood and appreciated in solitude. Solitude here however does not mean loneliness but inner recreation or tranquility which is the by-product of being in commune with the natural order. Samuel Taylor Coleridges The Eolian Harp also tackles the bea uty that nature brings. The Eolian Harp is a stringed performer which produces music when placed in an open window allowing breeze to pass over it. The eolian harp was often used by poets in the Romantic period to represent creativity. Just like Wordsworths poem, it sought to cope with pensiveness and nature as the solution or cure for this pensiveness as apparent in the first lines of the poem My pensive SARA thy soft cheek reclined Thus on mine arm, most soothing sweet it is To sit beside our Cot, our Cot oergrown With white-flowerd Jasmin, and the broad-leavd myrtleColeridge and Wordsworth, however, have different versions of wild-eyedism. Coleridge wanted to make the paranormal real or believable. Wordsworths idea of romanticism is to stir the imagination of readers using real characters. twee Literature During the overnice Era (1837 1901), novels and poems were no longer written mainly to please the aristocratic few but to make an impression and cater to the tastes of the much larger middle class. The novels were also getting wider acceptance around this time. In this era, romantic images of the past were extolled. The writers use everyday language and combine it with classical and handed-down language to symbolize the ushering of modernity in the Victorian period. At that period, the economy was developing, the nobility was gaining less prominence, and the class structures were vanishing. There is a expressed need for Victorian poets to find a voice that would capture the essence of their time and place. Rudyyard, Kipling Danny Deever attempts to portray the inner turmoils of a man about to be kill. The poem is about armed forces execution parade with Danny Deever. What makes you look so white, so white? said Files-on-Parade. Im dreadin what Ive got to watch, the Colour-Sergeant said. For theyre hangin Danny Deever, you can hear the Dead March play, The regiments in ollow square theyre hangin him to-day Danny is to be executed by hanging becaus e he killed a fellow soldier while he was asleep. One can sense the concerns of the soldier. Another important poet in the Victorian Era is William Ernest Henley who wrote Invictus. His poems were largely based on his personal reflections of his life and his situation being an amputee who suffered tuberculosis of the bone.In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowd. The common theme that ran through the poems is about struggles in life. Danny Deever struggled with his work as a soldier and in Invictus, struggles against disease was obvious. Literature in Victorian era is largely characterized as certain, conservative and objective. Writers in this area had learned to live with realities plaguing them be it social, economic and religious. matter of course in both poems come in the form of death and struggles. The views during this literary period were predominantly conservative especially when it came to social perspectives. The upheavals the people experienced during the romantic era had died down in the Victorian era. Much of the poets works around this time served to link and prepared writers as they paved way for the modern era. The literary pieces around this time also tended to reminiscing the past particularly the stories in the classical literature and the medieval literature of England. The Victorians cherised the the heroism, chivalry and nobility of the knights in the past and hoped to feel that behavior in their period.
